Sounds idyllic, right? In reality, summer camps represent a challenging, exciting mission field, not in some far-off country, but right in our own backyard.

It is at camp where these children and youth may hear the life-changing message of the Gospel for the first time: Jesus loves you, and has a great plan for you. He wants to be your friend. He will be with you when life is hard. He wants to be your Saviour.

Others may know about Jesus, but it is at camp where faith will finally become a real and living thing. At camp they experience the love of family, unconditional acceptance and a message of hope and forgiveness.

A Bible camp experience plays a big role in establishing a real and lasting faith; it is a stepping-stone to lives being transformed. The impact is deep, ongoing and eternal.

We need to be involved. Those serving in this mission field cannot do it alone. James tells us “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” In his letter to the Thessalonians, Paul urges the people to “rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Pray for those working in this amazing, challenging mission field. Pray for those living and serving at camp, for the children, youth and adults who attend, for follow-up ministries and God’s provision. Pray that these stories will multiply and that lives will change.
